Dear Editor, The recent letters from Michelle Allen and Bob Snelling aptly point out the disparate results on Amendment A votes by the General Assembly Commissioners and the Presbytery Commissioners. The 213th General Assembly Commissioners approved the Amendment A overture by 64%. As of today the Presbytery Commissioners are rejecting Amendment A by 72%. Both Ms. Allen and Mr. Snelling commented on lobbying of the General Assembly Commissioners. I believe that lobbying extends far beyond. Lobbying can occur in the selection of members to a Presbytery's nominating Committee. Lobbying can occur in the selection of Commissioner nominees placed before the Nominating Committee. It is easier to lobby the hundreds involved in the General Assembly Commissioner selection process and the General Assembly Commissioners themselves than it is to lobby the thousands of Presbytery Commissioners who ratify or reject the Amendments sent from the General Assembly.
