Dear Editor: It is common in counseling to observe that people project their own flaws and foibles on to others. Throughout the twenty year struggle around the issues underlying Amendment 01-A, those supporting the goals expressed through that now defeated amendment regularly portrayed the bulk of the denomination as poised to conduct 'witch hunts' upon them. Fear of such activity was used as one of the reasons for banning the religious press from committee meetings. It seems that the recent activities around the Sebastian congregation all too clearly illustrate who is interested in hunting witches and heresy. Significantly, the traditional middle as well as the orthodox wing of the denomination appears dis interested in hunting down any congregation or minister (whether witch, warlock or heretic) unless their website or publications breathe open defiance of historic Christian faith and our Constitution.
