Dear Editor: At last the Reverend Chris Brundage begins to wonder! The simple fact is that there are no arguments in defense of the validity of same-sex intimacy that will ever satisfy those of us who voted against Amendment 01-A. If there were, quite possibly we would not have voted as we did. In his letter posted March 2, Reverend Brundage says that he, too, used to oppose homosexuality. But then he read John Stuart Mill and adopted Mill's assertion that there is no reason to oppose human freedom to do whatever one wills, so long as one harms no one else. I can only assume that at the time Mr. Brundage refers to, he was already an ordained Presbyterian clergyman. If this is the case, understandably I wonder why J. S. Mill could influence him so on this matter when the Word of God Almighty is quite clear in saying that homosexuality is sinful. I have no hostility toward Mr. Brundage. My concern in this discussion is simply that the Presbyterian Church (USA) not affirm unrepentant sinners in positions of leadership in local congregations. Yours in Christ, William R. Thurman, Jr.Clerk of Session First Presbyterian Church Thomaston, Georgia Send
