Dear Editor:

I'm not sure where Mr. von Oeyen stands on the substantive issues before the PrebyterianChurch (USA). But his letter castigating the Sebastian church session and its supporters is a pretty good measure of how little there may be to salvage in the denomination, no matter who wins. Mr. von Oeyen objects because the Sebastian session did not have the "decency" to admit that it is wrong. The message is that disagreement with Mr. von Oeyen is not merely mistaken, not even just foolish, but indecent. Just where does anyone go from that point? How is there to be reconciliation, much less agreement. If the difference beween me and my opponents is that I am decent and they are not, there is no future for us under the same tent.
