To the editor:

As a Christian student of reformed theology, I find Witherspoon Society member Berry Craig's attack on the confessing church movement to be a bizzare read to say the least. In the spirit of a dispassionate and unsure faith that Mr. Craig would have me believe I share with most other Presbyterians I will attempt to debate and and not coerce, all the while exhibiting much "toleration" (sic - Craig's diction).

Mr. Craig, in his anti-New-Puritan zeal, commits the logical fallacy known as "ad hominem", by arguing against the character of those who support the Confessing Church Movement rather than their ideas or beliefs. Mr. Craig does not once engage in any interpretation of Holy Scripture. He would rather attack all conservative Presbyterians as being self-righteous and fundamentalist. What stock do put in Scripture Mr.. Craig? Where does our strong but very compassionate faith come from?

I am shocked that Mr. Craig, a professor of history, ignores the huge amount of historical support of Christianity that exist. Much of this historical accuracy is missing in every other religion in the world. Christianity has not only lasted, but it has thrived over the millennia for good reason. Christianity is based on a historical figure in Christ. It has as its Scripture a document (the Bible) that has tens and hundreds of more old manuscripts in tact than any other ancient document.

Lastly, the truth found in Christianity when coupled with its historicity is vastly different from that of any other major religion. This precludes any sharing of truth between Christianity and other religions. Only in Christianity is man saved by grace alone (Rom 3:24). All other religions promote a salvation that is works-based. Either the historical figure Jesus Christ died on the Cross for our Sin and we are forgiven, or he did not and we are all going to hell.

The historical evidence is on our side, Mr. Craig. Thank God, because there
is no "toleration" in hell.

Faithfully,
