Dear Editor, Sometimes I wonder what the folks at the Layman are up to. We all know that Dr. Achtemeier is a solid, biblical theologian and one of the brightest stars in our communion. We know that the accusations against him are false. So why would they publish material clearly designed to divide us evangelicals into the ready-to-pull-out-ers and the hang-in-there-till-the-end-ers? It seems that during such a time as this we need to speak with a united voice to the denomination and the larger church, rather than losing our focus and turning on each other. Isn't our common mission as evangelicals to pray and work for renewal in the Body of Christ as we find ourselves in the PCUSA? It seems like renewal groups like PFR, the Coalition, PFF, PPL, Presbyterian Forum, and even the Layman should be working together for positive change, not arousing suspicion among themselves. Let's trust each other a little more and work together for the renewal of Christ's church.
