Letters

Editor:

I am curious about Dr. Cejka’s sweeping pronouncement that “In Elder Larson's attack on Dr. Winter, she is wrong.” That’s a personal judgment. It may or may not be correct.

What is absolutely missing from Dr. Cejka’s assessment is ANY support for his contentions. If Viola Larson is in error, and as decidedly so as Cejka asserts, precisely what is wrong with what she wrote, and why is it wrong?

Larson’s essay, unlike Cejka’s letter, is replete with “for instances,” which she held up for examination and then discussed. Can Cejka supply just a few supports for his rather regal proclamation?

What is worse, however, is Cejka’s unwarranted assumption of Larson’s motives, that she was “mean-spirited.” And thus Cejka adds dark speculation to his unsupported pronouncement.

I found Larson’s reasoning and examples convincing, and she had only begun to scratch the surface of the errors, distortions, and biases evident in Dr. Winter’s essay.

Sincerely,

James D. Berkley
Director of Presbyterian Action for Faith and Freedom
Bellevue, Washington
